Delighting in His Decrees

Our scriptures for this week are Psalm 119:9-16

How can a young person stay on the path of purity?

    By living according to your word.
10
I seek you with all my heart;

    do not let me stray from your commands.
11
I have hidden your word in my heart

    that I might not sin against you.
12
Praise be to you, Lord;

    teach me your decrees.
13
With my lips I recount

    all the laws that come from your mouth.
14
I rejoice in following your statutes

    as one rejoices in great riches.
15
I meditate on your precepts

    and consider your ways.
16
I delight in your decrees;

    I will not neglect your word.

The questions to ask yourself--

1.  Am I living in light of this verse?

2.  Am I taking this scripture seriously?

3.  If I believe and hold to this scripture, what difference will it make in my life?

4.  What does this passage teach me about God?

Questions adapted from Tim Keller's book Prayer.

Have a great week.

I Will Meditate On Your Word

Let's spend the next few weeks meditating on Psalm 119.  It is a great chapter and has so much for us to learn from it.

It is basically about following the laws, commands, precepts, statutes of the Lord and LOVING to do that.

I think at the end of this time of meditating on this chapter, we will certainly understand why it is so critical that we LOVE His law and LOVE obeying it.

Psalm 19 tells us all the things that will happen to us if we love His law and follow it.  Take a look at that before you start if you don't mind.

One of the benefits is a refreshed soul--now who doesn't want that???

1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord.

2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart—

3 they do no wrong but follow his ways.

4 You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.

5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees!

6 Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands.

7 I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.

8 I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me.

The questions to ask yourself--

1.  Am I living in light of this verse?

2.  Am I taking this scripture seriously?

3.  If I believe and hold to this scripture, what difference will it make in my life?

4.  What does this passage teach me about God?

Fruit of Righteousness

"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God." Philippians 1:9-11

So sorry I am late but we still have three days to ponder and meditate.

Perfect Peace

Our meditation verse for the week of October 7th is this one.  Remember to ask yourself the questions at the end and ponder them in your heart each day.

By the end of the week, you will for sure have this verse interwoven into your memory.

I started quoting this and meditating on it years ago when my husband would have to travel out of town.  It gave me great peace.

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you: because he trusts in you.
Isaiah 26:3
