Today I am enjoying the pleasure of freedom. While enjoying it is a simple pleasure, the gaining of it was and is far from simple. Many lives have been given so that we can enjoy this great gift. This past week Arkansas lost one of its own, Army Private First Class Bryn T. Raver, 20, killed in Afghanistan. The flags flew at half-staff today here and will until tomorrow evening. A touching and sobering sight!
Because of him and others like him, I can walk where and when I want enjoying the flying flags of freedom and salvation.
If you notice in this picture the moon is visible. When looking at this I was struck with the awe of knowing an American flag is planted on the surface of the moon.
And did you know that communion was taken on the moon by Buzz Aldrin and words from the New Testament book of John read not long after their arrival. How fitting that the Words of the One who created the moon would be some of the first words spoken on it. If interested, you can access that information here.
But what struck me the most today was this: The Son, in laser sharp glory, has obliterated the pain of the cross, so that we can glory in it and the liberty it has brought to us, former slaves of sin.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Galatians 5:1 NIV
So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through. John 8:36 The Message
the Year of Longings-2010
He longs for us to be free in Him.
I long for my spirit to fly free.
