Holy Ground

Consider this--do you think the risen Lord talked to His companions on the Emmaus Road about Moses the deliverer spoken of in chapter three of Exodus?

Did He explain to them how God's people were in bondage, in deep slavery and needed someone to deliver--to lead them to a land that was flowing with milk and honey where they could find true rest for their souls?

Did they understand that they were the captives and now had access to freedom?

If Jesus quoted this verse to them

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush.

do you suppose they really understood that it was in the desert, the wilderness, the storm of crucifixion that their freedom was purchased?

Do we understand that sometimes it is on the far side of the desert where we find the Lord Himself and realize we are standing on Holy Ground?

Heart Burn

Consider this--Jesus walked with two of his followers (who did not recognize him at the time) from Emmaus to Jerusalem. Later on that evening as Jesus broke bread and blessed it they suddenly recognized Him but He immediately disappeared.  Why?
By this time they were nearing Emmaus and the end of their journey. Jesus acted as if he were going on, but they begged him, “Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.” So he went home with them. As they sat down to eat, he took the bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave it to them. Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared!
They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?” from Luke 24
Why did their hearts burn within them as He explained the old testament scriptures to them?  Because I desire that same kind of burning in my heart for Him, I decided to study the Old Testament references to Him.  I am going to try to cover all of them between now and Pentecost.  Won't you join me?  I googled it and got a listing of Old Testament references.  I can hardly wait to get started.  In the meantime, I want to walk and talk and commune with Him and recognize Him in every situation of my life.

A Sovereign Visit

The following was taken from a church email:

"You...have seen the outcome of the Lord's dealings
that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful."
(James 5:11)

What happens when the Lord sovereignly visits His people?

We are seeing at The Summit Church, in this moment a "mercy drop" compared to what we all long for, but a wonderful visitation from the Lord that began April 3 and has continued unabated for the past 20 days. We long for and need a great outpouring on our city, state, and nation. That God would do for us something that no method, scheme, or plans can accomplish. But we are unbelievably grateful for this mercy drop as we believe it is a call for us to intercede for the whole church-that God would purify His Bride (who He loves with an indescribably perfect love) and expand His kingdom.

At the risk of being misunderstood, and with NO desire to overstate, but accurately report what God is doing, can I humbly report what God is doing in our midst? What it feels like?

1. It is something that is happening TO US, but with which we must cooperate. The Lord has taken over our schedule. He is dictating what happens. He is gloriously in charge. There is little need to plan ahead because He is leading us in the moment. It is amazingly liberating.
But also, He has reminded us over and over again to follow Him and not "quench the Spirit." When He speaks-through His Word and His Spirit-listen and promptly obey so that His Spirit can be unleashed in and through us as He longs to do through His Bride.

2. We are being wonderfully cleansed. God is bringing to the surface so many things that have been impediments, hindrances to experiencing Him and being used by Him.
A man lays his PlayStation 3 on the altar because it is wasting God's time and precious time with his family

Pornography is being repented of and many are "laying aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness."

Anger, which consumes our energy and defiles others, is being released

Worry and fear which diverts our attention from the Lord and causes us to react and defend ourselves in needless and unnecessary ways is being removed

Hours (days and years really) of time wasted in the pursuit of entertainment is being diverted to seeking the advancement of God's kingdom

3. New Testament living is occurring-even if on a minor scale-but in ways so wonderful it is reminiscent of Acts 2, James 5, Matt 5-7, etc. (kingdom living)

We are meeting every day with gladness and sincerity of heart

The Lord is "daily adding to our number those who are being saved (59 baptized in the last 17 days)

We are giving. If a need is mentioned-even slightly-it is met by the giving of our people. Spontaneously, joyously. They are looking for ways to meet needs.

We are worshiping

We are listening to God's teaching and people are learning and growing at an extremely rapid pace

We are really praying, constantly praying. It is not an effort, but a joy, a delight. People cannot wait to get to prayer meeting nightly. One brother reminded us of the beautiful quote by John Newton: "Our pleasure and our duty, though opposite before, since we have seen His beauty, are joined to part no more."

God is receiving His "ordained" praise through the young-young believers, young people

People who are suffering...are praying

People who are cheerful...are singing praises

People who are sick (physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally) are calling for the leaders of the church to receive prayer every night.

We are confessing our sins to one another and praying for one another so that we may be healed

The effective prayer of man and women made right by Christ is accomplishing much
God is giving us faith to pray big prayers and we are seeing God's immediate answers. 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 seems SO real to us that God's "ear is attentive to our prayers," that we can pray and we seem to have the faith (supernaturally so) to believe that God is going to answer those prayers.

Like Elijah (who was a man just like us) we are having the highest privilege of praying for God's rain, and He is mercifully answering

Sinners are being turned back from the error of their ways and it is saving their souls from death and covering a multitude of sins.

4. The Lord is breaking our hearts for others. Over and over again, in multiple waves, God is helping us see His heart-through testimonies, exhortations, scripture passages and the gracious work of His Spirit and Word in our hearts, the two most important things:

1) the need for revival in the whole church in our city, His Bride and

 2) the awakening of the lost in our city. This theme is the one constant every single night as we pray and seek the Lord together.

We are expecting God to move in greater ways in the churches-not in any sort of judgmental way (on the contrary, our people are loving and honoring pastors and leaders and churches in their prayers, and tears, and comments with greater love and respect), but in a desire for God to cleanse and purify and awaken His Bride in this city for His great missionary purposes.

He is helping us see people. One of the ways that this is happening is through the honest admissions of our own needs. Another is through the salvation of the lost. Another way is just through God's gracious work of opening our eyes.

One young lady yesterday stood to say that she was walking away from a convenience store, saw two rough looking men and felt impressed to ask if she could pray for them. Normally, she would have walked away, but she went back, they immediately responded with prayer requests, she prayed, shared what God was doing, and went on. How will God use this witness? It is happening over and over again.

5. We cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard. Like every pastor, we have encouraged and exhorted our people to be a witness to others. We have a wonderful church, by God's grace, who seek to obey, but now-we cannot seem to stop telling others about Christ. Is this not what happened in Acts 2 as people saw the wonderful acts of God?

6. The Word is alive in new ways. For so many, the Word is a living, breathing letter through which God is speaking-specifically, daily, redemptively. It's not only making sense, by God's grace He is SPEAKING to us and we are hearing.

7. God is giving unusual grace to obey Him. It does not feel like a duty or drudgery, but a joy...an excitement to see what else He is about to do.

8. The Enemy is increasing his opposition. We have had an unusual and intense attack upon several of our people, particularly our leaders, that is evidence that he is upset. It has called for heightened vigilance and spiritual warfare to make sure he makes no inroads among us.

Let me not overstate the case-not everyone is experiencing all of this in our church, and let me also hasten to add that we have NOT experienced this to this measure every before. But I do want to glorify God by saying that HE IS SOVEREIGNLY SAVING US in ways that are unusual and different and "it is marvelous in our eyes."

Just think...if God would sovereignly awaken His Bride all across America?

Setting Me Straight

God has such a way of letting us know how wrong we are--

Since we have been in church every night (for many hours each night except last Saturday night when our church did not meet) for over a week, I decided to skip my Bible reading this morning. I had been up until 4:15--very bad storms until after 2 and then just couldn't sleep after that--and woke up late and exhausted.

As one guy said to me in the lobby of the church last night, "This praying for hours is exhausting." And it is--battle is exhausting and that is what we are in--a spiritual battle for our families, our nation, our planet, our souls, our very eternal lives--

It seems that God has dealt with our church on a specific, different issue each night for well over a week now--and we are tired! But I have to say it is a good tired--you want to keep going back to the battle, digging in, making headway for the next generation.

Night before last we were challenged to ask God to show us people we had aught against or whom we knew had aught against us and spend some time reconciling those situations and circumstances--at least doing as much on our parts as we could do--so I spent time this morning writing letters to some people from my past asking for forgiveness for my actions.

Yes, some of them were actions, some were reactions--but it doesn't matter--I don't care who was at fault, I just want to stand clean before God so that He can purify His bride and get us ready to lead thousands of souls to Him.

After spending some time in restitution, I decided to read Oswald Chambers and this is a portion of what it said:

"You no more need a holiday from spiritual concentration than your heart needs a holiday from beating. You cannot have a moral holiday and remain moral, nor can you have a spiritual holiday and remain spiritual. God wants you to be entirely His, and this means that you have to watch to keep yourself fit. It takes a tremendous amount of time. Some of us expect to "clear the numberless ascensions" in about two minutes."

The very idea that I thought I could take a holiday from my Bible reading just because I had been in church every night is ludicrous. And I almost let satan get the victory on that one.

So now that God has "set me straight," I will go read my Bible, pray and meditate as I should have done from the beginning. Such an awesome privilege, God forgive me for even "entertaining" the idea of not doing what I know is right.

I love you, sweet friends.

Springs of Salvation

From my church's website:

Report of God’s Mercies (4.12.11)

April 12 2011, 8:48 am

Last night 320+ people gathered again, the 9th day of unscheduled prayer meetings. This followed a 5 hour service on Sunday for most. The Lord was graciously present. Some accounting of a few things the Lord did for His people.

7 people came to be baptized as a bold testimony of their faith in Christ (46 have been baptized in the last 8 days)

2 additional people were saved also in the services that we know of.

One woman plead for prayer for a boy in another state and asked a young man in the audience to stand in his place so people could gather around and pray.

Recognition that the enemy is “prowling about” and has come to “steal, kill, and destroy” and we are to go to battle against him. Powerful time of prayer for a woman who is dear to the whole church body who is struggling.

A charter member and deacon asked the church to pray that he would look to the Lord for His constant sustenance. That he was not trusting the Lord fully.

A young man who has struggled with fear of man and who was baptized in a private place because of his fear asks to be baptized publicly so that the world would know that he is a follower of Christ.

A couple who has searched for a church home and has never been baptized shares they came the first Sunday when God began moving so strongly and moved to the baptistery…being baptized by their friend who had been baptized just minutes before.

A man whose wife died several years ago asks for prayer that he would accept God’s will and not resist what the Lord has allowed. Intense time of prayer for him and many, many others who are struggling to embrace God’s sovereignty over their lives.

An impassioned plea from the Word by a brother calls the men to come and be completely cleansed….the altar fills up with men, many of their wives coming to pray over them.

We realize God is calling us to be rid of deep sins and also deep wounds. The next wave of prayer leads many to be prayed for who have deep, deep wounds in their hearts. Molestation, hurt, loss…

An elder comes to the pastor during the prayer season and asks him if HE has any deep wounds. He is instantly aware of something that has hurt him deeply and finds complete release and healing as the elder prays over him. Blessed release from a wound he has carried for many years.

A man who one of the brothers has brought from off the streets stands to share he has just been saved.

A brother shares of a deep burden for a lost friend. He is driving tomorrow 3 hours to share Christ with him. The church intercedes for him and for many others who need Christ. “When Zion travails, sons and daughters will be born unto her.”

The meeting closes…and then reopens as a girl says she must obey the Lord and be baptized!

And on, and on, and on until 10:30

Multiple testimonies of needs for lost friends, sharing Christ with family members…God is sending us OUT.

Challenged by the Lord to go OUT. “This building can only hold so many people, but we can share with thousands tomorrow…go and do as we are doing here tonight—pray and intercede that people may “joyously draw water from the springs of salvation.”

I Am Praying For You

I am seeing you in my spirit and God knows you are there. I feel God is moving around the globe but there is one country in particular that is extremely on my heart this morning. When you read this, you will know who you are.

God wants you to know that He sees and hears you. He spoke to my heart to write you a personal message and let you know that even though you are living in a very depressed country where your voice cannot be heard, where you cannot worship openly and freely, He sees you, he knows your heart and He will come to you and comfort you.

He tells you not to be discouraged but to take heart for His arms are open welcoming any and all who will call on Him in the Name of Jesus. You are welcome in His arms.

God's Mercies continued

Taken from my church's website: www.thesummitchurch.org

A Report of God’s Mercies (Sunday, 4.10.11)

April 10 2011, 6:10 pm

Last night we had no scheduled prayer meeting but folks gathered anyway to pray for Sunday. Our 9 am service “meshed” into 11 with no break and lasted until 2 pm. Unbelievable sense of God’s presence and power. In our Jacksonville multi-site campus, the service lasted three hours and forty minutes with the same intensity as the Crystal Hill campus.

We observed together what God is doing in our midst…progressively step-by-step…

1. He is awakening us to listen and instantly obey (1 Thess. 5:19-21)

2. He is purifying His body (1 Thess 5:21)

3. He is manifesting His presence (Isaiah 12:6)

4. He is giving us His heart (Joel 2:17)

5. He is calling us to intercede (1 Chronicles 7:14-16) and His “ear is attentive to our cry”

6. He is saving lives! (Isaiah 12:2-3)

7. He is making His deeds known among the people (Isaiah 12:4)

8. He is making His Name famous in the land! (Isaiah 12:5)

As God continues to move we witnessed…

§ 11 more spontaneous baptisms (38 in the last 8 days)

§ A father who was impressed to not read the paper, but laid it down and prayed with his daughter who burst into tears and was saved. They came to church to be baptized.

§ Huge rocks removed that were covering the “springs of salvation” in many lives

§ A woman laying down long-standing bitterness

§ Intense prayer for lost family members

§ A man shares his problem with anger and desire for God to remove it but is unwilling to give His life to Christ. “Pray for me that I will just hear God.” 20 men pray over him as the church joins in and before he leaves the circle he has given his life to Christ!

§ Worship pastor sharing his past and calling men to stand up as men. Intense prayer by wives over their husbands.

§ Visitor from Hot Springs believes God has brought him here for us to cry out for his city. Intense intercession ensues.

§ College students share how they went downtown after the meeting Friday night, shared Christ until 4 am, came home and made 100 sandwiches and went back and spent the day sharing Christ.

§ Young man, visiting for the first time, shares that a friend who had been in the prayer meetings this week challenged him to live up to his name (“Joshua”) and become a general for Christ. He shares his repentance and of his wife’s repentance this week.

§ And on, and on, and on…counseling, prayer, repentance, rejoicing happening for hours.

WE CONTINUE TOMORROW NIGHT AT 7 PM. COME PRAYING!

More of God's Mercies!

A note from my pastor:

A Record of God's Mercies

NO PRAYER MEETING TONIGHT at the church (but don't quench the Spirit-join with others to pray if God directs, etc)...but rest, tell people about Jesus, and come praying to the church tomorrow that revival will break out all over the city! Please, please pray for every church you know, that God will graciously visit Central Arkansas!!!

Last night (Friday, April 8, 2011) was another amazing time of four hours of prayer, 7 baptisms, hundreds weeping at the Lord's Table as we saw Christ in ways we have never seen Him, and a very intense time of not only confessing but RENOUNCING every area of sin that we had allowed the enemy to hold in our lives. Ministry to many with disabilities. Such a sweet, gracious time. Wonderful final challenge and thanks from a dear brother who a month ago was living under the 430 bridge and God has redeemed him and he and his friend who are now ambassadors for Christ.

THEN, THE LORD LED US TO AN INTENSE TIME OF PRAYER FOR THE CHURCHES IN CENTRAL ARKANSAS, which, I felt, was perhaps one of the primary purposes of the night. What the Lord has visited us with this week at The Summit has been amazing and we are so grateful, but is a mere "mercy-drop" compared to what we need in our city, state, and nation. We are asking you to press on, to pursue Christ with us fervently that a tsunami of God's Spirit would invade us and be unstoppable among our churches. PRAY FOR EVERY CHURCH GOD BRINGS TO YOUR HEART BY NAME TODAY! Go through the yellow pages and pray through the churches. Ask for God's mercy.

I believe the Lord has graciously awakened us this week so we would be in a position to join others in our city as INTERCESSORS for the church and the city that God would send a great revival among His church and spiritual awakening among the lost.

I just received this email from my friend, Jack Taylor, who was a key figure in the 1970 revival that happened in some places in our nation.

"How great to read of what is happening at Summit Church. Some months ago I was invited back to Castle Hills First Baptist Church where I pastored from 1957-1974, where a mighty awakening came 41 years ago in 1970. Amazing things began to occur, repentance and reconciliation began to spontaneously happen. I believe the optimum time for revival, awakening, return is upon us. I never saw some things like I see them now in God's proposition in 2 Chronicles 7:14. This is not to be perceived as a promise only to the Jews but to all believers and it is not a timed promise but a revelation of the disposition of God in every age. It is ours for the asking, coupled with obedience. We have never been closer to an all-out conflagration. Stay low, seek prayer, seek the Kingdom and the King, find advisors among the aging. This could be "it", the promised time slightly hidden in many places of Scriptures and ready to be revealed. God is not through with anybody who will step forward and take him at his proposition/promise.
When God sees return, there is power in return and things will happen beyond anything we have ever dreamed of."

Last night a group of college students who had been at our prayer service went downtown to share with anyone they could find. Worked until 4 am. Came home and made 100 sandwiches and bought water bottles and went back downtown at 10:30 am Saturday to hand it out and tell people about Christ. Pray.

Sincerely,

Bill Elliff

The Video

Come Lord Jesus!

The Summit Church
04/08/2011
Don't do one single thing that would quench the mighty Holy Spirit

A Record of God's Mercies

Last night, hundreds gathered again for almost four hours at The Summit Church. God laid Isaiah 12 in our hearts as to His direction for the evening:

Isaiah 12
1 Then you will say on that day, "I will give thanks to You, O Lord; For although You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, And You comfort me.
2 "Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the Lord God is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation."
3 Therefore you will joyously draw water from the springs of salvation.
4 And in that day you will say, "Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; Make them remember that His name is exalted."
5 Praise the Lord in song, for He has done excellent things; Let this be known throughout the earth.
6 Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

The Lord wonderfully came and allowed those attending to "joyously draw water from the springs of salvation.

· 14 people spontaneously baptized. Many had never been baptized, just been saved and some had their baptism on the wrong side of their conversion.

· A father who has struggled for years with an addiction confessing his need for prayer, the room erupting in "travail" over this brother for his full deliverance. Later, he has the privilege of baptizing both his son and daughter-it seemed that his obedience and humility opened the door for his children to obey the Lord.

· A young lady came weeping, whose husband had committed suicide in front of her 30 days ago. "I am so angry at God and I can't get over it." The church prayed heaven's grace down upon her and God's joy came to her heart. In God's providence, the pastor who did her husband's funeral was in attendance and took us to God's throne on her behalf. Her friend said, "Could I ask the church to give...my friend needs a car." An offering basket was placed on the altar and streams of people began to give. A while later a young man comes in late and finds out about the need and comes to the mic, "My dad called me yesterday and said he had a Ford Explorer that he needed to give away if there was anyone who needed it...(he turned to the young lady)...do you want the car?" She got the car and the $2856 that was in the offering basket!

· A businessman from NW Arkansas stood to encourage us by saying that a friend in Oklahoma had told him that God was doing something wonderful in Little Rock and he was here Thursday on business and came. They have been praying for the same in their area.

· A businessman from Russelville, Ark. came and said the same. He didn't want to miss what God was doing, was in town on business, showed up 2 hours early and went to prayer and by the time the service started was already in brokenness and tears.

· A staff member's daughter stands to confess that several years ago she had a child out of wedlock and was encouraged to share that with the church at that time but resisted that. The child miscarried, but now she comes to ask the church's forgiveness for what happened. The church shouts out their forgiveness and embraces her as does her husband and father (and Father!)

· A man comes to the meeting, leaves, gets 10 minutes away and is so grieved for his dying neighbor that he returns to ask for prayer which leads to intense prayer for his neighbor and OURS.

· Many, many other moments of people joyously drawing from the springs of salvation.

We record these for you because Isaiah 12 said we should "Make known His deeds among the peoples; Make them remember that His name is exalted" (vs. 4). We are hearing reports of people around the country praying for God's visitation in their churches and cities.

Would you pray with us that, if God so desires, He would visit all the churches in Central Arkansas so that this would quickly be something that is not located in one church.

We understand that Fellowship Bible/LR church students are having a student led prayer meeting at 9 pm praying for God to move. Mosaic church in LR has invited all their people to come tonight to the Summit and had a similar season of great prayer and spiritual activity on Wednesday night.

"Lord, rend the heavens and come down!"

A God Thing!

This is an email that went out from our pastor this morning about the service last night:

"Make known His deeds among the people, make them remember that His Name is exalted" (Isaiah 12:5).

Unbelievable night...too many stories to tell.

14 spontaneous baptisms. Ran out of towels after about the fifth one!

A woman whose husband committed suicide in her presence one month ago coming and finding deliverance from anger at God then her friend telling us she needed a car. A spontaneous offering of $2856 and then a man gets up and says, "My father said he had a Ford Explorer he wanted to give away and asked me yesterday if there was anyone at church who needed it!" So...she got a car and money for gas and insurance and to pay off her school debts!

Tons of people set free from all kinds of things.
A father asking for prayer for a habitual sin...people travailing deeply in prayer over him and then his daughter and son both come for baptism and he gets to baptize them! His obedience paved the way for theirs...and on and on!

The prayer meeting continues tomorrow night at 7 PM. The word spreading. Hearing reports of another prayer meeting at a major church...we are asking God to spread it quickly among every church in our city so that it is clearly seen as not a Summit thing, but a blessed intervention of God.

And a little side note from me--also, last night--

A young lady tells us that 8 years ago she found herself unmarried and pregnant--she, along with her parents, went to talk to our pastor. He advised her at that time to come before the church in humility asking for forgiveness.

She chose not to and later had a miscarriage. She said the miscarriage made it very easy for her not to ask forgiveness. Later she got married to a wonderful young man who supported her and forgave her sin.

She asked the church for forgiveness--eight years later--

End of story?? Not quite.

I got an email this morning from one of my blog readers in a state very far away. She read where I go to church yesterday and told me her nephew goes there. Her nephew?? The young woman's husband who had so graciously supported, loved and married the young lady who came asking for forgiveness.

Before last night, I didn't have a clue who this young man was but I got to write my reader back and say "Yes, I know who your precious nephew is." Wow! God is so awesome.

I realize I haven't gotten the video up from yesterday--will try to get a couple of videos up today.

Break My Heart For What Breaks Yours!

Just a little update--My husband and I had the privilege of taking our ten men at Renewal Ranch to the revival at Summit last night. Although we hadn't attended until last night, evidently from what we heard from others, God moved in a very different way.

God seemed to lay burdens of prayer upon our hearts for the lost people of central Arkansas--and the main thrust it seemed was "break my heart for what breaks yours." And not just lost people but the hurting, the down and out, the widows and orphans--God wants us to hurt for the people He hurts for--to take up the mantle of prayer for them--not only this but to give of our time and our resources.

At one point our pastor asked the men of Renewal Ranch to come down front--the congregation came in great numbers to lay hands on and pray for our men--there was a season of incredible prayer for them.

In another part of our church there were hundreds of youth having their own worship service. We spent time praying for the salvation of any there who did not know Christ.

We met for a couple of hours--people were still coming down front to share scripture and prayer burdens--but our pastor felt that we were to close, go home and fall on our knees before God--we closed--many stayed and were praying, talking, fellowshipping--after about 15 minutes or so, the pastor said, "Come on back down front--we have someone who wants to be baptized."

I will try to have video up later today of this baptism--it was great!

We are going "night by night"--if our pastor thinks that God is moving in a way that we should continue to have services--so, we are having service tonight.

As soon as the service was over, one of our RR guys came up to me and said, "Thank you for bringing us. I want to come back tomorrow night." That was also the sentiment of all the guys. They were overwhelmed with the love and support shown to them.

So the guys invited us up to the ranch to eat dinner with them and then we will drive back down to Little Rock for services, and back up to Conway to take them home and back to Little Rock--what an awesome privilege!!

To God be the glory, great things He has done!

Running Ahead!

This devotional by Oswald Chambers is so timely for me--Just wanted to share it with you. Hoping your weekend is filled with all things wonderful and holy.
